Death to the Syllabus -- an article on AAC&U's website decrying the bloated, rule-oriented, penalty-describing version of a syllabus that too many of us use these days.  The author argues instead for a syllabus more focused on student learning and getting students interested in our disciplines and our courses.

  • New Resources

New resources on teaching and learning are always available on our website (see link to the left).  As well, we have some new equipment available for folks to check out to use in their teaching and learning:

  • Video Camera -- if you would like to videotape your class for the purpose of reflecting on what happens in the classroom or actually to see yourself teaching, we have a digital video camera that can be checked out for that purpose.  We will then make a DVD for you of what you recorded.  You can sit down with someone from the Eykamp Center to look at the DVD together, or simply view it on your own to use for your own self-reflection.  No one else will see the DVD -- and we promise we won't post it on YouTube!

  • Audio Recorder -- we now have a digital audio recorder for use in your classes to audiotape your teaching for self-reflection or other purposes.  This can be checked out through the Eykamp Center.

  • Books, articles, etc. -- we have a Resource Center in the Eykamp Center that has numerous books and articles on various aspects of teaching and learning.  There's always something new!  You can check these materials out to use.

  • Opportunities for Professional Development

We get a lot of information on good opportunities for professional development in the Eykamp Center for Teaching Excellence.  We've started a new list of upcoming conferences, new resources, etc. on issues in teaching and learning.

Check it out at the Professional Development link to the left!
